Home Health Care and Private Duty Home Care are two different types of care. Home Health Care is provided to a patient when a medical doctor finds it necessary for therapy when recovering from an illness. This type of care is provided in the patient's own home or place of residence. Insurance typically will pay for this type of care when ordered by the doctor.

Home Health Care agencies provide skilled services to patients that may include nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and a social worker. Once a case manager opens the case they will recommend to the therapist what type of treatment is necessary. The number of visits varies upon the illness and ability to participate.
