Independent Living

Independent living is any housing community designed exclusively for seniors. Typically the age to qualify is 55 years and older. There is an array of styles in a community, from free standing homes to apartment like living. Most places take the worry out of doing daily chores around their previous home.

Many communities allow the residents to come and go as pleased. Most Independent Living Communities provide a stove and refrigerator. Although they are classified as independent some of the communities offer some form of laundry service, maybe a meal and some sort of recreation. This gives the seniors the opportunity to connect with peers and participate in community activities, such as arts and crafts, holiday gatherings, continuing education classes, or showing of movies.

For the most part independent living communities are designed for clients that need no or very little assistance with their Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s). However, if such need does become of need most communities have connections in their community to provide more care.
